Here are 10 Mistakes I made that you shouldn’t repeat to grow faster:
[1] Not Engaging Twitter is a platform where you give and take. But give give give give, and then take. Engage with other accounts, add more value to them. Don’t get reply “Nice thread,” “Nice tweet” Instead, share your thoughts.
If you regularly engage with at least 10-15 accounts, I’m sure that account will start noticing you. I wasted my initial days just focusing on MY tweets MY likes MY comments MY retweets It didn’t work well.
[2] Not Observing Bigger Accounts The faster way to grow is to repeat what BIG accounts do. Learn from them and Implement/ follow the same writing style. I kept thinking about what will work by doing multiple permutations and combinations.
Copying the content is a crime. Copying the writing format/template isn’t all. Take inspiration from their Tweets and create tweets in your niche.
[3] Didn’t Leverage DM I never knew DM could do wonders in building a solid connection. I used to approach 0 people in DM when I started my journey. But people will remember you at least with the chat history so compliment them in DM if you liked something about them.
Connection counts >> Follower counts Followers will come and go, but connections will last forever. Today I offer my products for free to many of them in DM. Remember to GIVE.
[4] Not reusing content I always kept on thinking about what I should post. I was burning out of content. But I can reuse my old content adding a fresh look to it.
All your followers never see 80% of the content you post. Try to reuse the content every 3-4 months. Reusing content is another opportunity for you to provide value to your audience.
[5] Kept Posting threads When I had less than 500 followers, I was posting threads. But no one will ever notice it as you don’t have much following. Don’t waste time on thread focus on small tweet formats and adding more value to top accounts.
Your Tweets and Your Thread matters less when you have fewer followers. Instead, Turn ON notification bells for top accounts and a fantastic reply that people can’t stop reading.
[6] Not optimizing thBioio Bio makes or breaks your profile. I had added random text before that didn’t make sense to my audience. If you have more profile visits and fewer followers, it’s time to A / B test your bio. Make it clear from the Bio why people should follow you.
[7] Waiting for tweets to go viral This is the worst thing you can ever do while growing your audience. Don’t tweet to go viral. Tweet to improve your writing, add more value to the world.
With every single tweet you post, you are getting noticed by many. Things start to compound if you play a long-term game rather than focusing on the short-term gain.
[8] Had more expectation I spent hours writing tweets and getting less than ten likes in return. I kept on expecting too much when I tweeted. I kept on checking my follower count. I was frustrated as I did not see the result.
But the fact is you can never control what will happen next. All you can do is post good content. You will be rewarded for sure. Any social media platform out there rewards consistency.
[9] Never spend time on Analytics I never used to reuse my content which performed well. But you can write the same tweet in 10 different ways. I used to keep thinking of what to tweet when I already had the analytics to measure.
Reuse the format of a tweet that has got good engagement, gone viral. Use https://analytics.twitter.com for checking your stats.
[10] Wanted to Increase follower count I was posting on Twitter with only ONE goal to increase follower count. But the fact is follower is the reward you get for posting quality content, doing it consistently.
If you don’t enjoy the journey, you will fail. Stop worrying about numbers, do your best, and see how you can improve. Get 0.1% better every day.
